In a significant move, ICAI has recently expanded the scholarship corpus fivefold from ₹ 100 crore to ₹ 500 crore while also doubling the monthly rewards for many categories to keep pace with rising education costs.
About the ICAI scholarship 2025
The ICAI scholarship is a flagship scheme that provides monthly financial assistance to CA students based on merit and need who are enrolled in Foundation, intermediate and Final levels. The scheme now provides increased amounts (ranging from ₹ 15,00 to ₹ 3,000/-month) and higher parental income limits (up to ₹ 3 lakh ), all accessible through the ICAI portal. It is administered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, one of the world’s largest accounting bodies, established under an Act of Parliament.

Objective of ICAI Scholarship 2025
The primary goal of the ICAI Scholarship is mainly focused on inclusivity and excellence. The main aims include:

- To bridge the gap for deserving candidates who belong to economically weaker sections ensuring that the cost of professional training does not lead them to drop out.
- Rewarding Academic Excellence
- To recognise and incentivise high-ranking students ( top 10 rank holders) in the intermediate examination by giving them a “ Merit Award “ regardless of their financial status.
- Promoting inclusivity
- To make the CA profession accessible to students from all strata of society, particularly supporting those from families with an annual income below ₹ 3,00,000.

- To provide end-to-end financial stability from the foundation stage up to the final stage ensuring students can focus solely on their rigorous studies and article ship without financial stress.

- By increasing the scholarship corpus from ₹ 100 crore to ₹ 500 crore, the aim is to serve a significantly larger pool of students and address the rising costs of education.

Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility is broadly divided into two paths: Merit & Economic Need
- Merit award ( Top 10)
- Applicants must be among the top 10 rank holders in the intermediate examination and currently registered for the final course. No income limit applies to this category.
- Merit cum Need ( Rank 11 to 50 )
- Students must secure a rank between 11th and 50th in the intermediate examination. Eligibility is restricted to students whose parental income does not exceed ₹ 3 lakh annually.
- Need-based ( Intermediate / Final )
- Only for registered students whose family income is below ₹ 3 lakh per annum.
- Foundation Need-based
- Specifically for newly registered Foundation students from the economically weaker section whose family income is less than ₹ 3 lakh.
Financial Benefits
The revised monthly reward gives significant relief :
- Merit( Final ) : ₹ 2,500 per month
- Merit cum Need ( Final ) : ₹ 2000 per month
- Economy Needy ( Intermediate or Final ): ₹ 1,500 per month
- Economy Need (Foundation ): ₹ 1,500 per month.
Note: The period of the Scholarship is 30 months or the remaining period of Article-ship, whichever is less.

The scholarship applications are processed quarterly. There is no final closing date but timely submission ensures quick disbursement.

- Massive expansion of the corpus
- The total scholarship fund has been increased fivefold from 100 crore rupees to 500 crore. This historic boost allows the ICAI to reach over 30,000 beneficiaries annually, ensuring a much larger safety for the student community.
- Accessible Eligibility income ceiling
- To bring more middle-income and economically weaker sections into the fold, the parental limit for all need-based categories has been raised to ₹ 3 lakh.
- Continuous online window
- Application remains open online throughout the year via the self-service portal. Unlike traditional scholarships with deadlines, ICAI processes these applications in quarterly batches providing flexibility to apply immediately after registration or exam results.
- High standard of integrity & Disbursement
- To maintain transparency and accountability, ICAI employs a strict High standard of integrity & disbursement protocol. Every Application undergoes Mandatory verification via the SSP portal where Articleship students must receive their principal approval, while non-Articleship students require a recommendation from any practising CA. Once approved the scheme uses a direct DBT model, remitting funds straight to the student’s bank account within 15 days.

- Information will be auto-populated.
- In the Application Form.
- Review auto-filled details and upload mandatory documents.
- Verification for Articleship students, There is a verification of income on the portal .
- For Non Articleship Students, a practising chartered accountant must verify the application.
