The JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship Fall 2026-Spring 2027 was established in 1892 by Jamsetji Tata. It is one of India’s most prestigious merit-based programs,  providing financial support to high-achieving students to pursue postgraduate,  doctoral, and postdoctoral studies abroad. Since its inception, it has supported over  5,800 scholars, including world-renowned scientists, economists, and thinkers.

About JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship Fall 2026- Spring 2027 

JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship Fall 2026- Spring 27 is a merit-based scholarship initiative by the Tata Group aimed to designed providing financial support to outstanding Indian students to pursue higher education at prestigious institutions in overseas. Selected students will receive a scholarship of ₹20 Lakh.  Students who are selected for the loan scholarship, may be recommended for a  partial Travel Grant and a Gift Award, which is linked to their academic performance in their overseas studies, at the discretion of the Trustees of the Trusts concerned.The last day of the application process is 15th March 2026. 

Objective of JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship Fall  2026- Spring 2027 

The Scholarship aims to identify and support the best and the brightest Indian students who possess the potential to excel in their chosen fields and contribute to the development of India. It also provides financial assistance in the form of a low-interest loan scholarship for postgraduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral studies.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Candidates should be Indian citizen, not older than 45 years as on June 30,  2026, and graduates of a recognised Indian university with at least 60%  marks on average in their undergraduate or post-graduate studies. Candidates are not eligible to apply if their undergraduate degree is not from a recognised University in India. 
  • Candidates who are admitted to the course, must be recognised as a  Graduate Program mainly post–graduate in Indian terminology. 
  • Candidates who did not get selected in the previous year/earlier for the J N  Tata Endowment loan scholarship and candidates who could not avail of the loan scholarship when they were selected, are eligible to apply afresh. 
  • Candidates who are already pursuing postgraduate studies abroad may apply either at the end of their first year of studies or at the commencement of the second year, provided there is a minimum of one full academic year (12  months) remaining to be completed at the time of the loan scholarship award,  typically in July of any calendar year. 
  • Candidates who are currently on break for CPT or OPT training must have two full semesters or three quarters remaining to complete their program. 
  • Candidates in the final year of their degree courses and those awaiting results are eligible to apply. Candidates may apply, even if they do not have the admission/offer letters from the universities to which they have applied for the academic year 2026-2027, at the time of filling out the application form.  However, they must update their application status with the Endowment once they secure admission by sending an appropriate email to jnteapplication@tatatruts.org, quoting the reference number which appears on the top left side of the form. 
  • J N Tata scholars who have fully repaid their existing loan scholarship amount are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates going overseas for student exchange programme, seminars,  conferences, training, workshops, paper presentation, undergraduate studies,  and any post-graduate degree/diploma/certificates through Distance learning or online medium are not eligible to apply. 
  • Candidates planning to pursue postgraduate and undergraduate studies in  India are not eligible to apply. 
  • Candidates who are planning to study for a diploma of at least 1 year duration, whose entry-level requirement is higher secondary level, are not  eligible to apply. 

Assessment Process

The selection is highly competitive and follows a four-phase structure:

  • Screening: Evaluation of the online application and Statement of Purpose (SoP). 
  • Aptitude Test: An online test or Thinking Skills Assessment to evaluate critical thinking and problem solving skills. 
  • Technical Interview: A deep-dive interview with subject experts in the candidate’s field of study.
  • Final Selection: Final review of the candidate’s overall profile, including interview performance and academic records. 

Financial Assistance

  • The selected candidate will receive scholarship of upto Rs. 20 lakhs

Features 

The Key features includes:

  • Merit-Based Loan Assistance 
    • It provides a one-time loan scholarship of up to ₹20,00,000 or 20 Lakhs). Unlike traditional bank loans, it carries a very low simple interest rate typically around 2% and is awarded solely on the basis of academic and professional excellence. 
  • • Performance-Linked Gift Awards 
    • Exceptional scholars are eligible for additional financial rewards. If a student performs outstandingly during their course abroad, the Endowment may convert a portion of the loan into a “Gift Scholarship” up to ₹7.5 lakhs and provide a partial travel grant, which does not need to be repaid. 
  • • Flexible Repayment Terms 
    • The repayment schedule is designed to be student-friendly. Repayment usually begins only after the completion of the course and is typically structured in five equal installments between the third and seventh year after the loan is disbursed.
